Roman Ollar, sophomore, took fourth in both the 1500 and 3000 at the State Track Meet in Eugene, with times of 3:57 and 8:47, respectively. His brother Grayson Ollar, sophomore, also finished with impressive times of 8:53 in the 3000 securing a spot on the podium. Grayson also took tenth in the 1500 the next day. Gavin Anderson, senior, threw 131’2’’ placing tenth in discus while Meghan Carbiener, freshman, took fourteenth in the discus in her first State competition.

“The first race I did was the 3000. Using the times we ran at districts I was ranked fourth going into the race. I was feeling pretty nervous beforehand. The first mile of the race was very slow, everyone was in a very tight pack, it was also very violent and felt like a pinball machine, I was tripped but only stumbled and did not fall. There was a lot of elbows and pusihing. The second mile sped up a lot and it made me feel really tired. Three runners pushed ahead of me and finished in front of me. I was able to out run the people behind me and got fourth.” Roman said.

Roman felt better the next day when running the 1500 and he is looking to improve for next years state meet.

“I could improve by making sure I don’t get trapped in the middle of the group and being able to speed up with those who make a move during the race,” Roman said.

Only Anderson is graduating, so the Ollars and Carbiener will train hard to compete in State next year.
