Varsity Boys Basketball beats Tigard in a close game, 55-53

Jaydon Grant, junior, looks to pass the ball last Friday against Tigard. Grant helped the Lions to a 55-53 victory by scoring five points.
The West Linn Boys Varsity Basketball team (19-4, 12-1 Three Rivers League) defeated Tigard (12-11, 5-8 TRL) 55-53. The Lions followed up the JV team, which won its game by 31 points. Before the game started, the seniors were recognized during Senior Night.
The Lions started slow. The first three-pointer came from Payton Pritchard, junior, the first of his 21 points. By the end of the first quarter, they were down 12-17. A win was still within their grasp, but it wasn’t looking like it would be easy.
After another quarter of fighting, West Linn managed to tie the game 29-29. By the start of the fourth, they were winning 43-42. Pritchard led the Lions in three-pointers. From Tigard, Brady McGetrick stood out with 17 points.
The score was back and forth until West Linn started to gain a considerable lead. With just a minute to go, the score was 55-50. West Linn successfully stalled and allowed only three points within the last minute. The buzzer rang, declaring the Lions the winner, 55-53. They had come back from losing by a five point deficit.
The West Linn Lions are currently ranked number one in 6A Boys Basketball for the OSAA. They face Sherwood next Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. at Sherwood High School.
