Seniors James Siderius and Spencer Chang were both awarded with $2,000 college scholarships for their outstanding academic and community achievements.
Chang was winner of the November Discus Awards Scholarship, a scholarship presented to one high school student every month of the academic year for their achievements in academics, community service and work. A panel of judges chose Chang from among thousands of other Discus Award winners as the recipient of the scholarship.
Siderius was selected by the College Board as the 2011 state winner of the Siemen’s Awards for AP. The College Board selects one male and female from each state a year. He was chosen for his exceptional performance on the AP exams in math and science. Siderius took eight AP exams last year, and scored a five on all of them.
“He [James] was actually quite quiet in my class, but he always had great questions. He was incredibly interested in Science, and always knew the material,” said Ms. Monson, AP Biology teacher.
