From the Pacific to the Pacific NorthWest

From teaching in the Marshall Islands to the halls of West Linn High School, new social studies teacher Brian Kuzma brings his experiences and unique teaching styles to U.S. History and civics this school year. He will also coach freshman football in the fall.

Kuzma decided to teach kindergarten through eighth grader in the Marshall Islands after earning his masters degree from Colorado College, and his bachelor’s degree at Earlham College in Indiana.

“I wanted to do something meaningful,” Kuzma said. “We didn’t have any printers or stuff like that so it taught me how to have fun without technology. And there’s always something to do.”

Born in Ann Arbor, MI, Kuzma has lived all across the United States. This is Kuzma’s first time living in the Beaver State but his wife is from Eugene, so Oregon won’t be a total question mark for him.

“One great thing is there won’t be any pigs walking into my class,” Kuzma said jokingly referring to his teaching days in the Marshall Islands.
