The Debutantes dominate weekend dance competition
West Linn’s dance team places 1st and 3rd in Saturday dance competition
The Debutantes West Linn High School’s dance team, were ecstatic last Saturday when they placed 1st place in Kick and 3rd in Hiphop at a dance competition at David Douglas High School. The Debs have been practicing these routines since the beginning of the school year in preparation.
“Obviously we were so, so happy with first place!” Abby Schrader, senior dance captain dance, said. “But we were also really excited with Hiphop, since we’re definitely not a Hiphop team.”
Out of three teams in the Kick division, the Debs came in first place with an averaged score of 73 out of 100. Out of five teams in the Hiphop division, the Debs placed 3rd place with a score of 67.5 out of 100, only 0.6 points behind Canby, and 5.5 points away from 1st place, taken by Parkrose High School.
“We were close enough to Canby that it could be easy to jump them in the next competition,” Schrader said. “So we’re looking forward to improving there.”
The Debs’ next performance is at Reynolds High School, Nov. 23.
