Choir students attend all state
“I’m excited to see all the green and gold robes up there on Sunday,” Aubrey Patterson, the Choir Teacher at West Linn High School, said as her highly devoted choir students prepared to take the stage at All State Choir, on Feb 16.
“All-State is an honor choir experience,” Patterson said.
In order to attend All-State, students are required to go through a thorough audition. After auditioning, a recording is sent to the state level, in which officials anonymously chose the best candidates. Students are chosen based on the categories of their choral parts. Soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone.
Out of the 32 students that auditioned in Sep. 2018, six students attended the event over the past weeked.
The event was held at the Portland Convention Center, in downtown Portland, Oregon.
“Singing is a great way to express my emotions and I can really channel my inner thoughts,” Nathalia Nicolalde, Freshman, said.
Nicolalde attended the event for the first time last weekend. Nicolalde was inspired to grow her knowledge in choir, improve her choral skills, and continue meeting new people that share the same love for singing, that she has.
The opportunity to attend All State 2020 is open for all choir students to audition for. “This is the culminating event,” Patterson said. “I encourage all of my students to audition.”
For choral students, All-State is an opportunity to represent West Linn High School. “It really is a big honor to be selected,” Patterson said. “So to have this many going from one program going from one group is really great.”

Flipping through the creamy paper of the West Linn Tidings, Kara Steinberg, freshman, skimmed over her name. Immediately, her eyes ran back to the page,...

Throughout the game, the Lions knew that it wasn’t just about their victory today. “I think [playing for cancer] makes it bigger than just a game,” McGraw said. “Knowing that you have a bigger impact in this world than just who you are as one person.”](https://wlhsnow.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/I70A1454-1-1200x800.jpg)

The students brought a variety of paints and mixed their own custom colors. “Instead of brushstrokes, we’re doing more dabbing, because it gives [a] better impression of tree foliage, rather than looking like actual brush strokes, because if we’re painting trees, we need it to look like trees,” Crawford said.](https://wlhsnow.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/IMG_2397-1200x900.jpg)
