The OSAA has updated their website announcing the cancelation of all winter sports championships due to concerns of COVID-19 outbreaks.

As rumors and speculations about the COVID-19 virus flow through the school, administration is trying to get an idea of how the district and the state as a whole is going to handle this pandemic in relation to school closures and event cancellations. Principal Gregory Neuman is awaiting a conference call that will include all high school principals in the district. “I want to make sure that whatever we send out is the right message.”

Superintendent Kathy Ludwig released a statement at 11:45 on March 11 that was sent out to all families in the district. While schools will remain open based on Governor Brown’s decision until further notice, Ludwig has announced information regarding school events. “In accordance with the Governor’s guidance, we will proactively suspend non-essential events that bring large groups of students, adults, and community members together. This is a preventative measure and is not related to a presumptive case in our school district. At this time, there are no presumptive cases in Clackamas County or the West Linn-Wilsonville School District.”

Administration is relying on trusted sources to inform their decisions.  “As of right now we are taking all of our information from the Oregon Health Authority,” Neuman said. “We are not going to do anything without the recommendation from the Oregon Health Authority.”

While field trips and non essential events have been canceled, “As of Governor Brown’s conference this morning, all schools will stay open,” Neuman said.

“At this point we’re taking it on a case by case basis and we’re working to support kids as best we can, and it’s a fluid situation.”

As soon as administration has more information it will be posted on Principal Neumans twitter @WLNeuman and on the WLHS ASB instagram @westlinn_asb
