Lady Gaga gives a patriotic and powerful performance at Super Bowl 51
In the midst of drones, and dancers Lady Gaga made her way to the stage for the Superbowl 51 halftime show. The world of Gaga’s performances is known to shock the audience. This performance though didn’t just shock, it made a stand.
Although rumors spread early last week that the artist would shy away from any type of political statement, Gaga fought back telling the Huffington Post, “The only statements that I’ll be making during the halftime show are the ones that I’ve been consistently making throughout my career,” Gaga said. “I believe in a passion for inclusion. I believe in the spirit of equality, and that the spirit of this country is one of love and compassion and kindness. My performance will uphold those philosophies.”
Gaga is not one to shy away from her political views, founded in 2011 Gaga started “Born this Way”. “Born this Way” is a program to help educate LGBTQ+ youth and give them a safe space. Since then, Gaga has been an activist for the LGBTQ+ community and known for her deep stand on the issues surrounding it.
Starting the halftime show with “This land is your land” shocked viewers because of its political and patriotic nature. Gaga continued the set with classics of hers like “Born this way” and “Poker Face”. At the end, although Gaga made no blatant statement it was obvious that the point she was trying to make came across. To say that the Lady Gaga performance will go down as one of the best is something only the history books will tell us, but for sure Gaga proved a point that the world needed to hear.
