Taking On A Tall Task

Changing The Program For The Better, One Article At A Time

Senior year is the time to kick back and relax. Most seniors are plagued with “senioritis” and lack the motivation to do anything, but not Zoe Craig.

“I think the best part of my experience at West Linn High School was the awesome classes that I took, like journalism and acting. They introduced me to the coolest people ever and made my high school experience more individual to me.”

Craig started journalism her freshman year as a journalism one student. She found the environment of the staff interesting and to her liking, pushing her to climb up the ranks as a journalist. It took her three years of climbing, but this year she has finally reached the peak of her climb, in being named Head Editor In Chief. However, this role that she has taken on is no easy one.

“Over the summer I really did work to try to revamp the program because the last few years I feel like we’ve been missing one of the parts that made this class a family and a community and I wanted to bring that back.” Craig said.

While other people were out not wanting to even think about school, Craig spent countless hours planning and looking over how to make her senior year in journalism as successful as possible. She went to a number of work jobs and conventions to help her better her writing as well as learn more about creating a friendly and productive workplace.

“Yeah, it’s a lot of work, but I love the people I’m on staff with and I love what we do.”

This love and passion for what she does motivates her during those late nights and early mornings spent editing.

Craig is looking at colleges such as Oregon and Western Washington, but she is hoping to know in the next couple months or so. Hoping to pursue the field of political science or journalism, Craig is very optimistic for the future to come, but is making sure to enjoy her last year as a high school student.

“The academic part of school takes up a lot of time, but I love being involved involved in school spirit and school activities. I’m just trying to make the best of my senior year.”
