Lions Varsity Baseball team defeat Bulldogs 12-2
The West Linn Lions Varsity Baseball team (6-6) triumphed over the Hermiston Bulldogs (4-9) 12-2 on April 11, at West Linn High School.
West Linn started with two runs in the first inning and never let up. Ben Jacobs, senior, drove in an RBI double sending Blake Herman, junior, in for the run. Shortly after an RBI single by Nikko Mills, sophomore, sent both Jacobs and Tim Tawa, freshman, to home plate putting the Lions up 5-0 at end of the second.
In the bottom of the third, after the Bulldogs walked Trevor Wells, sophomore, Brayden Pene, sophomore, hit the ball between the base gap into the outfield allowing Wells to advance to third and Pene to first. Herman stepped up to the plate batting a single. As Wells ran for home plate, the ball was thrown to the catcher who was charged with a passed ball allowing yet another run in for West Linn. Jacobs and William Matthiessen, sophomore, also contributed RBI singles in the third.
A double play by West Linn sent the Lions into the field in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases full, 11 drove in a RBI double for two runs by 3 and 14.
West Linn scored two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings followed by Hermiston’s two runs in the seventh.
West Linn will play the Canby Cougars (7-4) on April 16, at West Linn High School at 5:00 P.M.
