Todd Jones, teacher and Model UN adviser, writes their yearly aspirations onto the lantern. Teachers showed up and not just to monitor the event, they also made lanterns, ate desserts and practiced calligraphy.

A student cuts paper to create a lantern. This station focused on cutting paper and folding them to create lanterns which are a huge theme of the Lunar New Year. It also provided markers, pens, and pencils to write your aspirations on them.

 At the main table, student leaders share this dessert, allowing students to experience a small part of this vast culture. This photo captures one of the very first sales of the day at the Lunar New Year Event that took place in the library and was hosted by Model UN and the Affinity Club. At the event they had chosen to share a Singaporean dessert and this was one of the many students who had purchased one. Gretchen Bertram, teacher, helped organize the event. “One of the countries is Singapore,” Bertram said. “They wanted to highlight that and so the students found a bakery in Portland that made a special Singaporean desserts."
