Kelsey Murphy
The youngest of three girls, Kelsey Murphy is continuing the family legacy of attending West Linn High School.

“Sure, we all look the same, but we all have very different interests in our futures,” Murphy said.

Murphy hopes to attend Olds College in Alberta, Canada. She is also open to taking a gap year and exploring the world.

One of the main standouts about Murphy is that she has found a love of writing. “My interest in writing first started in third grade. “Third grade was when I was just making up short stories as I went, and fourth grade was when writing really started to become more interesting and fun for me.”

In fourth grade, Murphy’s passion for writing really got going when she started reading books that piqued her interest. If she had to choose, Murphy would say that “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak is her favorite book of all time, and “Strange The Dreamer” by Laini Taylor coming in a close second.

Murphy chose journalism because she “wanted to pursue writing,” and become more efficient. She mentioned that she is looking forward to school trips, as they seem like a great learning experience.

Murphy also loves to ride horses. One of her dreams is to be an Olympic Medalist for show jumping. Murphy has been riding for about nine years. Though it may seem like a long time, it really isn’t in the horse world.

“Riding is like a break from all the stress of school and life,” Murphy said. “ It is really nice to be able to connect with an animal that is five times larger than you.”

Though Murphy has her eye on Olds College, she has just a few ideas for her future.

“I would love to stay in the horse business and become a published author,” Murphy said. “I also wouldn’t mind seeing where life takes me, as I like to just go with the flow of things.”
