West Linn Barstool is a social media account that gives information to help the school and student body communicate. The account is managed by ASB Spirit Commission Griffin Parker, junior, and Luke Ewert, senior.
The Barstool account was made by Carson Hader, class of 2024 alumnus, in the summer of 2023 as a continuation of @Westlinnrap, another account following school activities, and handed Barstool off to Ewert and Parker.
“The year before Hader ran it, he contacted me because he knew I had video skills, photo skills, and also I was able to make the designs,” Ewert said.
The barstool account soon began to grow, increasing in followers and views.
“Being a spirit commissioner has kind of made me more involved with the school, so when I had the opportunity my freshman year to help out with Barstool with Hader, I kind of jumped at it, and he passed it to me,” Parker said. “We run polls, stories, and post to keep people informed and involved with West Linn.”
Ewert has been part of the Barstool account for one year and will attend Boise State University in the fall.
“[I] do all the posts, I manage the account alongside my friend [Parker],” Ewert said. “I mostly film and I use my personal Ewert media on my film account, and then I collab with Barstool videos [that] go on there.”
While Ewert focuses on football posts and videos, Parker takes a different route.
“I make the game day trolling posts, so when we play [Lake Oswego] and we’re making memes, I just kind of do all the funny posts, and Luke takes more of the responsible role in making game day posts, video montages, and edits,” Parker said.
Since Ewert is graduating, Parker is looking for a new member to keep the Barstool account going.
“We’ve held interviews, but we’re kind of trying to find someone to fill the gap of Luke’s area of expertise because he does all the video stuff,” Parker said.
Even without a second member lined up, Parker has a plan for the barstool account next year.
“We want to get more student involvement with Barstool, more polls throughout the school year, and finding a strong middle ground for funny posts and informative posts is the way we are going to do that,” Parker said.
As Ewert is passing his position to the next member, he has advice to offer from his four years of experience in photography and videography.
“It’s okay to be uncomfortable and just [get] into situations, you got to do what you got to do, get good shots, you have to learn to be okay with crowds,” Ewert said.
