2013-2014 National Honors Society officers chosen

The National Honors Society has announced the new officers for the 2013-2014 school year. The president will be Keeley Anderson along with officers Renee Layoun, John Goetze and James Topping, juniors.

“I’m super excited,” Anderson said. “I’m looking forward to being part of a society that gives back to the community.”

Anderson’s service project plans are still undecided, but she wants to partner with different organizations so that students can have the opportunity to diversify in projects.

The three other officers also intend to have different service projects planned. Goetze plans on continuing the service project that Tyler Griffin, senior, currently handles which includes trail work and ivy-pulling at Mary S. Young Park.

“I want people to care about the work they do,” Goetze said. “I’d rather have them work for 20 minutes than stand and do nothing for three hours.”

Goetze is aware of the extra challenge that he will face, but he is honored to have been elected as an officer.

“I’m excited to be leading people and taking a leadership position,” Goetze said. “I want to do my best to make NHS the best for everyone.”

Topping is excited to try and integrate NHS into the community.

“I really want to partner with Music and Arts Partners and try and promote the arts in the community,” Topping said. M.A.P. provides a variety of services from providing band equipment to schools to scholarships for future college students.
