Jacob Stoneking, recent WLHS graduate, loses battle to brain cancer
Support offered to students this morning in the office and Media Center
Jacob Stoneking, Class of 2014, passed away yesterday evening. Re-diagnosed with brain cancer this February, Stoneking was told by doctors that there were no medical treatments they could offer.
The West Linn-Wilsonville School District’s Flight Team, composed of counselors and other administration, was present at the school this morning. Admin has contacted Stoneking’s relatives to provide immediate support. The team is present this morning to aid students in their coping process.
Stoneking was originally diagnosed with brain cancer in 2009 and endured a bout which ultimately ended in the elimination of his cancer. Unfortunately, he relapsed this past spring.
“Jacob fought a great battle against cancer and I know many [WLHS staff and students] were touched by him,” Lou Bailey, principal, said in an email. “He was an amazing young man who touched me deeply.”
Other WLHS students and staff remember Stoneking as well as preserve his legacy.
“He has a smile a mile wide,” Jennifer Jolly, counselor, said. “That’s what I think of when I think of him.”
Stoneking’s celebration of life will be held Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Willamette Christian Church.
