Running back Elijah Molden, junior, pushes towards the end zone in a 50-6 win over Lakeridge. The Lions face undefeated Sherwood, Friday at 7 p.m.

The West Linn Varsity football team (5-0, 3-0 Three Rivers League) have been on a roll in Three Rivers League play as they have outscored their three opponents all combined 141-40. The challenge awaits in undefeated Sherwood (5-0, 3-0 TRL) in a matchup of the No. 2 and No. 3 ranked teams in the state.

Quarterback Tim Tawa, junior and running back Elijah Molden, junior, have led the Lions commanding offense. In the 50-6 win over Lakeridge (1-4, 0-3 TRL) Tawa threw for four touchdowns in the first half, while Molden ran for three more.

As for the matchup against the Bowmen, the Lions are treating it like any other game, even though they know what league title implications the game holds.

“We are preparing this week almost the same as any other week, just more focus,” according to linebacker Zack Huffstutter, sophomore. “It will be a competitive game to watch.”

The Lions are also preparing for Sherwood’s complicated Wing-T offense, unlike any other teams in the state.

“Our defense can’t be caught guessing or looking at the fakes, and our offense has to execute every time they get the ball.” Huffstutter said.

However this game won’t be focused solely on football. In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness week, the theme of this game is a pink out.

“We are helping to raise our student’s awareness about the need to keep fighting the disease that affects so many,” ASB officer Kylie Fretwell, sophomore, said. “We will be doing a line of pink duct tape in the student section at the game for people to stick their money to and donate.”

The Lions face off with Sherwood, Friday at 7 p.m. at WLHS.
