Sam Dearborn, Videographer/Photographer
When he’s not practicing on the lacrosse field, Sam Dearborn, junior is pursuing his passion in film.
Dearborn’s admiration for film began at a young age when his father, Chris would make home videos of him and his older brother Michael.
He also grew up watching his uncle, who is in charge of visual effects at CBS. The inspiration from those he looks up to led to Dearborn to creating videos with his friends; practicing his directing, writing, video and editing skills. It is also the reason he joined Amplifier,
“I joined because of the great people, and to use it as a showcase for my filmmaking,” Dearborn said. Since he joined during his sophomore year, Dearborn has been able to create videos ranging from the lacrosse state championship to breast cancer awareness. “Not only has this class helped me with my film skills, I have also improved my writing skills, making me a triple threat,” he said.
Dearborn’s other passion is lacrosse, which he has been playing since sixth grade. “It started out as a fun activity with my friends,” he said, “but as I got into high school I became more serious and wanted to continue playing.”
He hopes to continue with film for the rest of his life and already has his sights set on different film schools. “Over the summer I attended a summer film academy at Chapman University and I am also interested in Loyola Marymount and New York University for schools, I hope to someday make movies with my older brother.”
It can be hard balancing lacrosse, Amplifier, school and film, but for Dearborn, pursuing his passions is worth it.
