Students are offered grief support today in the Forum
UPDATE: Caballero’s memorial service will be held Feb. 24 from 7-9 p.m. at the Church of Grace at 4224 S.E. 62nd Ave. in Portland. His grave side service will be held Feb. 25 at the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Hill’s memorial service will be held Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m. at the Willamette Christian Church.
Counselors, administrators, district nurses and county officials clustered in the Forum Monday morning to aid students grieving the loss of Antonio Caballero and Copper Hill, juniors. The students were killed in a fatal accident Saturday afternoon after hiking in the Columbia Gorge.
“We’re gonna see how kids are doing today, but we will do some posters, cards to family and support to family as well,” Jennifer Jolly, counselor, said. “We’re going to let kids dictate what they need. If they want to do cards and letters to family, that’s great. We have to be willing to go whatever direction the kids want to go.”
In upcoming weeks, West Linn High School plans to offer support on an individual basis.
“If the grieving process is going down a different process for them and they need some guidance, that’s when they can come in and get connected to resources,” Jolly said.
A candlelight vigil was held Sunday night on the school’s football field. Monday night, students gathered in Willamette park to light lanterns and set off balloons.

The students brought a variety of paints and mixed their own custom colors. “Instead of brushstrokes, we’re doing more dabbing, because it gives [a] better impression of tree foliage, rather than looking like actual brush strokes, because if we’re painting trees, we need it to look like trees,” Crawford said.](https://wlhsnow.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/IMG_2397-1200x900.jpg)
