Both the senior and the junior mock trial teams claimed spots at the state tournament at the district competition on February 27. The teams tried a case involving train chases and police misconduct. “When I walked into the courtroom my heart was pounding. I was so nervous, but once I got going, I was like, ‘I can do this’,” Kendra Ogden, sophomore and member of the Junior Mock Trial Team, said. “Everybody came together and we showed that we could really bring it.” In the past six years, Mock Trial has experienced many successes. Both the junior and senior teams have advanced to state every year but one. Only the winner of state can advance to nationals, and the junior and senior teams will be competing against each other at state. “Regardless of what happens at state, it’s just been a fantastic experience getting to be part of such a great program and really becoming a family [with my teammates].” Ogden said. The state competition will be held on March 13 and 14 at Multnomah County Court House.
