Two WLHS athletes represent the school at the Annual Northwest Shootout

Tomorrow, two students from West Linn High School, Taylor Enders and Anthony Mathis, seniors,  will join the best basketball players from Oregon to face off against the best from Washington. The Annual Merrit Traux Memorial Northwest Shootout takes place every year after playoffs, when 40 high school basketball All-Star seniors gear up to compete in the shootout. Enders and Mathis will be competing on the All-Star Oregon Girls Team and All-Star Oregon Boys Team, which each feature nine other All-Star players.

For Enders’s last year at WLHS, she had success on and off the court. She hit important game winners, was placed on First Team All State and earned a 3.5 grade point average in the classroom. To continue her success in the off-season and to prepare for college basketball and the upcoming Northwest Shootout, Enders has been practicing every day to  sharpen her skills and perfect moves.

“I feel very honored to have been selected to play and represent the Oregon team,” Enders said. “Right now my main focus is to get my endurance up. I still do my normal workouts, I am just adding more cardio.”

Mathis was also successful this past season. With the help of his team, he was able to win the state championships for the third time in a row.  He was also placed on Second Team All State. To prepare for this tournament, Mathis is working out every day and polishing his ball handling and shooting skills.

“ I really hope to get to know all of the other great players and have fun playing against the best from Washington,” Mathis said.

The shootout will take place at Liberty High School, tomorrow, April 18. The girls will be held at 4 p.m and the boys game will be at 6 p.m. and . Tickets are $10 for adults and admission is free for students and children 18 years and younger. Tickets will sell at the door at 3 p.m.
