Philip Chan
Every day, when Philip Chan, freshman, wanders through the hallways of West Linn High, passing from class to class, Chan can’t help but notice the people who surround him. Each person with their own unique story. Each person brushing past him, waving to him and talking with him. If Chan had his way, each story would be known.

In grade seven, Chan helped to found the Rosemont News. It was here, interviewing new teachers, that Chan discovered his love for journalism.

“It’s all about the people and I love the people.” Chan said. Guiding words, a drive to discover, to inform and to share who people are, make Chan a multi-talented individual, an artist and a philosopher. He has a great talent for speaking and knows just when and how to place his comments.

However, Chan hasn’t always been this way. In elementary school and into the beginning of middle school, Chan struggled for confidence. It wasn't until he started acting in a school sponsored Shakespeare play that he discovered what it felt like to show his talents in front of his peers.

“Why do dogs play dead? Where is the enjoyment in that? Life is short, cherish it, be happy,” Chan said. And if anyone is cherishing life, it is Chan. With a keen eye for the little things in life, and a mind readily and willing to tell a story, Chan takes the world and paints a picture.
